Event entry pages will specify the rules that they’re running under. Time trials in Scotland are mostly run under CTT rules, however there are a few running under Scottish Cycling rules still. Generally CTT rules are more permissive than Scottish Cycling, it is worth familiarity with relevant sections of the terms – especially if you are entering a championship event.

Midweek TT Series
The FCA Midweek TT Series is run under CTT regulations. This is a summary of the rules and scoring the full details are linked below;
- working front and rear lights are required
- ride to road conditions, and the Highway Code, our events are run on open roads
Leagues
The series uses a league system so that riders can have competition with others of similar ability. There are four leagues, A, B, C, D, which are set on a riders’ best 10m time in the previous season (or current season if previous is not available, and pro-rata on 5 miles if a 10 time is not available).
- A – under 23 minutes
- B – 23:00 to 24:59
- C – 25:00 to 26:59
- D – greater than 27 minutes
Note: The league seeding is regardless of road or TT bike used. If a rider chooses to ride a road bike, they will be seeded into the league with other riders of similar ability on the bike they choose to ride. Typically this sees TT bikes in the A league, and mixes in the rest.
Scoring
Points are awarded to each finishing rider on the open result sheet of each event. Points begin at 80 for first, 79 for second and so on (80, 78… given to both riders in the 2-up). Riders equal on time get the same number of points. Unattached riders do not score points.
League positions are calculated by adding a riders’ 12 best points scores across events in the season. There is then a multiplier – which encourages riders to attend more events. The multiplier is the number rides in a season, to a maximum of the number of events minus four. If there are 20 races in a season, the maximum multiplier is 16. A rider gets a multiplier of 16 by riding (or volunteering) 16 or more events.
To “unlock” their points, a rider must volunteer at a minimum of one event. A rider can volunteer at up to four events in a season and receive their best-12 average to count towards the multiplier. This is to encourage volunteering, which is necessary to run the series. In fact note that it is usually advantageous to volunteer to drop some lower scoring results.
Categorisation
There are awards for the winners of each league, and overall for open, female, youth, junior, and veterans. These are based on the points filtered to the respective categories. Prizes are open to all, but silverware are competed for by FCA club members.
Juniors are 17-18 years of age (determined on 1st Jan of the season). Youths up to 17 years of age. Riders must be 12 or older on the date of the event.
Veterans (over 40) age is determined as on 30th June of the current season. Veterans position is calculated using VTTA standards, pro-rata for non-standard distances, and for hill climbs proportioned to the previous years’ winner to 22 minutes. Any team events (2-up) are not counted for the veterans competition.
Because the league is seeded to ability, there is no road bike category. If a rider chooses to ride a road bike they will be allocated to a league matching their ability on that bike, racing against others similarly on their chosen machine.
